Not only has my skin decided it needed a ramped up regimen, but recently so has my hair. Through all of high school, college, and 5 years into working, I’ve bleached/dyed and chemically straightened my hair. I waited months to go to my salon back in Japan, that I was going to since I was 14. As much as they did the best they could to minimize the chemical exposure to my scalp, and using protective steps, all that processing to my hair has finally started to manifest itself into a serious problem: flat (and dare I say…thinning?) hair!
I’m not proud to admit it, but I needed to do something about it. I used to apply a ton of silicone-based products to defrizz and make the hair shiny. But now I need that PLUS volume. Putting the silicone-based products alone weighs my hair down, and only accentuates the flat/thin hair.
That is when I tried PHD (yep, I picked it up from the shelf because it had a nerdy name lol). This styling treatment is used on damp, towel-dried hair. After I shower and brush out the knots in my hair, I take a sizable dollop on my palm, and work it from roots to ends. It’s unique to see a treatment product like this one that says to apply on the roots of your hair, but there’s a reason for it. The 5-in-1 styling treatment promises an “ideal balance of all the benefits you need for a perfect hair day: smooths, volumizes, conditions, strengthens, and polishes.” It contains the two patented materials made by Living proof – OFPMA and PBAE. Out of these two the latter is giving the hair the oompf that it needs for more volumized hair. It is not sticky, oily, filmy – just perfect.
In addition to the Living proof full shampoo & conditioner that I bought in the same trip to Ulta (will highlight them in a separate entry), I used PHD, curled my hair and went to work. BY FAR, I received the most compliments I’ve ever received in a single day on my hair – byyyy faaaar! Needless to say, I am a true believer in Living proof now.
